Realstrange, officially the realstrange AU and commonly abbreviated as RSAU, is a fictional universe and a joint worldbuilding project. It focuses on Seterra, a planet that is similar in size and density to Earth.
It is also quite similar to Earth in biology, culture, and technology. However, Seterra has its own unique geography, and more importantly, history. Realstrange, as it exists today,
was started by wisky in January 2023 and was developed and expanded into its current state by the combined efforts of multiple members of the community.

This thread will be used by the members of RSAU to post their works in any Shipbucket-approved scale, following a (hopefully) standardized framework.

The largest country of the world, it's composed by 18 constituent republics home to multiple ethnicities. Originally the Royal Valárian Saivillare Exarchate, then the independent Saivillare Exarchate,
it became the Commonwealth of Sofíae Constructivist Republics in 1913 after a civil war. The Sofíae Commonwealth and its predecessors have been involved in many of the major historical conflicts and events.
In the years of the Global Freeze the CSCR has maintained a policy of non-alignment between the FRB and OFSN blocks, offering a "third way" for other countries similarly unwilling to commit to a side.

Veszenia
[ img ]
A Republic uniting most of the Northern Carlacs which has existed in various forms for millennia. Veszenia has faced severe hardships during the last century, going from a comparatively poor country,
to the difficulties of assimilating reclaimed lands after the fall of the Saivillare Exarchate, the Sofíae invasion during the Great War and a tense relationship with its bigger neighbour.
Despite this, Veszenia is now a high-income country with close ties to the OFSN block.

Vohylt-Tvahorner

Having been subjugated by the former Reussisch Empire and regaining independence in 1915, the Commonwealth of Vohylt-Tvahorner is collection of republics structured under a federal democracy.
It boasts the 3rd largest economy on the planet, having a robust industrial sector and a leading space industry. Militarily, they are aligned with Khraelyia as one of its closest allies,
having one of the largest military budgets in Seterra. It is known for interventionist policy and its large navy

Tihama
[ img ]
Tihama, officially the Federal Socialist People's Republic of Tihama, is an autocratic one-party state situated on the northern tip of the continent of Colytheus.
Though nominally socialist, Tihama has transitioned to a corporatist/state capitalist system which has enabled them to take advantage of excellent climate and rich natural resources in order to position themselves as the 5th largest economy on the planet.
Centered largely around mining, oil, tourism, and the manufacturing of heavy equipment and military weapons, Tihama's newfound wealth has allowed them to position themselves as the dominant power on the continent of Colytheus.
Tihama's huge military, expansionist goals, and anti-democratic ideals often put them in confrontation with the democratic powers of the world. Tihama is a key member of the FRB Alliance.

Estry
[ img ]
In 612, Allamane Est arrived in the northern frontier, introducing Verdantic colonization to Ebiria and extending it deep into Etheisia. Over a millennium later, Est's legacy is still carried by the Federal Republic of Estry,
a small nation in Ebiria, still recovering from a brutal civil war, but determined to assert itself on the global stage. Estry has blossomed into a beacon of egalitarianism,
a bastion of culture for both Estrians and Ebirians, and leading the Eisenstadt Union alongside Reussland and Virlannia.

Lingala
[ img ]
A former Khraelyi colony that gained self rule and then independence in the 20th century, the Commonwealth of Lingala is a liberal democratic state in northwestern Colytheus with a diverse, modern economy.
Militarily they are Khraelyia's greatest ally on Colytheus, with a modern and well-funded military that has served alongside Khraelyi forces on expeditionary missions across multiple continents.

Khaenriah
[ img ]
A former colony of a long Lost Empire. The United Kingdom of Khaenri'ah, is a rapidly growing industrial nation located in the frigid far north. Blessed with abundant natural resources such as coal and iron,
the Khaenri'ah manufacturing industrial complex can support the rapidly growing economy, via material exports to other neighbouring and far-flung nations.
Khaenri'ah as a nation and society is slow to trust, choosing to watch world affairs from afar when their direct interests are threatened or put in jeopardy.

I will be in charge of portraying the Tihaman faction throughout this AU. As you all know, I also run my own AU (the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies) which is very much still under development, however I was invited to this project and find it quite entertaining to portray a nation so different from anything I've ever done. You'll have to excuse the artistic and stylistic inconsistencies in some of the work here as they were done far before my recent "artistic renaissance" that I have undergone with the help and guidance of so many SB members. These are some of my first "modern" ships and of electronics and sensors I have only the most basic understanding. That being said, please enjoy and feel free to ask myself or any other members about their work. More is coming, so stay tuned!
[ img ]
The Dhib (Wolf) class corvettes are a class of small oceangoing missile ships developed during the late 1960’s for the Tihaman People’s Navy. Built to fill the need for a smaller, shallow-draft coastal combatant capable of defending the nation’s ports and shores from invasion, they were the first missile-armed vessels to serve with the TPN. 10 were ordered from both civilian and military yards around Tihama, in two batches of five, from 1968-1970. All were in commission by 1975. Particulars are:
Displacement: 1,200 tons nominal,1,750 tons full load
LOA: 102 meters
Beam: 10.5 meters
Draught: 3.5 meters mean, 4.3 meters deep load
Machinery: Four Borsat D12V-1 12-cylinder diesels on two shafts, 32,000 shp
Design speed: 30 knots
Range: 2,300 nautical miles @ 20 knots
Crew: 72
Primary armament is the 9NM4 transonic anti-ship missile (OFSN reporting name SS-N-1 Swordfish). First developed and fielded by the UFRR in the early 1960’s, the missile was the first of its kind ever deployed by the TPN. With a top speed of Mach 0.95 and carrying a 1,000-pound high-explosive warhead, the weapon system offered a massive boost to the TPN’s capability to counter modern OFSN naval forces in Tihaman territorial waters. Aft, short-range air defense was provided by the 9NAA7 CLOS-guided surface-to-air missile system (OFSN reporting name SS-N-A-7 Striker) on a retractable M-82 single-rail launcher. Gun armament consisted of a twin BB-N-2 57-mm dual purpose gun system capable of engaging both surface and aerial targets, as well as a pair of 13.2-mm machine guns. A pair of triple 432-mm torpedo tubes for anti-submarine warfare was also provided.
The main drawback of the design was their limited fire-control and missile direction capability. With only a single M-374 director for the main battery missiles fitted atop the bridge, only one missile at a time could be reliably guided to its target.
The ships have reportedly been plagued with engine troubles as they approach upwards of 50 years of age, and half of the class is out of service. Dhib was sunk by a Mezrehi coastal defense missile in 1998, Kayutaa by Mezrehi air attack in 1999. Dubb, and Jakwar are currently mothballed and disarmed, while Alqatu Albariyu was scrapped in 2009 following a fire which left her a constructive total loss. The remaining five vessels are still in active service, but are pending replacement and are only partially crewed.

The Siada class destroyers are a class of large warships developed for the Tihaman People’s Navy by the Tihaman State Shipbuilding Commission throughout the early 1980’s. Taking advantage of an uptick in oil revenues and an increasingly tense security situation with Al-Mezreh to the south, Tihama took the opportunity to make huge strides in creating a modern naval force capable of far grander operations. Designed primarily to provide air defense cover for the up and coming Tihamat Alhambra aircraft carrier, the Tihaman’s decided on a sleek hull with a gently raked bow, particulars were as follows:
Displacement: 7,000 tons nominal, 8,200 tons full load
LOA: 147 meters
Beam: 18.2 meters
Draught: 5.5 meters mean, 7.2 meters w/ sonar dome
Machinery: Two-shaft CODAG, Four Borsat DG177 gas turbines (40,000 shp), Four Borsat 12V-5 12-cylinder diesels (30,000 shp), two shafts
Design speed: 30 knots
Range: 7,600 nautical miles @ 20 knots
Crew: 235
[ img ]
Unlike previous Tihaman heavy surface units which used steam propulsion, these featured a combined gas turbine and diesel plant providing respectable range and top speed. 20 knots on diesels alone was possible, and the powerplant was arranged asymmetrically as reflected by the offset placement of their funnels and uptakes. While they certainly weren’t up to the seakeeping standards of the UFRR and Khraelyi navies, they did well in the calm and warm waters surrounding Tihama, and were enjoyed by their crews overall. They were the very first Tihaman destroyers to feature an integral helicopter hangar and permanent aviation facilities, with space for a pair of AALDA MB-9 helicopters for SAR/ASW duties aft. Amidships, a pair of M-82 single-rail retractable launchers for the 9NAA7 short-range CLOS surface-to-air missile system provided close-in missile defense. Firing arcs for these missiles fore and aft were limited. Boats were stored beside the funnels on either side, while a substantial number of life rafts were carried for emergency evacuations/boarding duties. Just forward the hangar, a pair of triple 432-mm torpedo tubes for ASW work were shipped. A quartet of 9NM7 transonic sea-skimming land-attack/anti-ship missiles (OFSN reporting name SS-N-3 Spear) were mounted just aft the bridge on the centerline of the vessel. These weapons were based on the Remanian Saetta missile system, documents for their design were skimmed from Remanian labs by Tihaman spies, and the missile went on to become a mainstay of the TPN arsenal. Their appearance on the new warships nearly led to Remania’s expulsion from the SAFN as Khraelyi and Mestran officials called on them to protect their projects from foreign espionage. Gun armament consisted of the BB-130-2 semiautomatic DP gun system forward, while four NBQA-23-2 CIWS provided last-ditch defense against incoming munitions and aircraft. 400 rounds are carried for the main gun, including specialized long-range land-attack ammunition. With a RoF of ~40 RPM and 80 degree maximum elevation, it is suitable for attacking shore/surface targets out to a range of 22,000 meters and aerial targets out to 15,000 meters. RoF for the CIWS is ~2,000 RPM. The primary armament of the class, however, is the M-79 twin-arm launch system for the 9NAA12 long-range air defense missile (OFSN reporting name SS-N-A-9 Sling). With a 40-round magazine below the bridge, the launcher is serviced via a rail reloading system. The missile was developed locally by Tihaman engineers working in concert with experts from the UFRR and Baclia, and is capable of engaging targets out to 65 nautical miles at Mach 4 with a service ceiling of 21,000 meters. The missiles initially featured semi-active radar guidance but improved software and targeting technology enabled a transition to track-via-missile and an increased resistance to countermeasures as well as the ability to engage more targets simultaneously. A pair of CIWS directors were shipped on each mast while the short-range SAM directors were mounted abreast the aftermast. Directors for the main SAM complex can be found atop the bridge. Located on the aftermast are the communications array, electronically-scanned 3D air search/target acquisition system, and communications antennae. Long-range air-search, SATNAV, and surface search were shipped on the foremast. The domed gun director could also be found atop the bridge, which was flanked by a pair of 12-barrel 230-mm ASW rocket launchers designated NAAL 230-12. A total of four ships were ordered under the 1981 fleet program, and all were in commission by 1986. Their names were Siada, Samid, Shujae, and Gharyi. Siada and Shujae were attached to the 1st. Surface Ship Division and tasked with the escort of the carrier Tihamat Alhambra, while Samid and Gharyi formed the new 2nd. Surface Ship Division. All four saw extensive service in the Mezrehi conflict, where Siada was struck in the bow by a Mezrehi torpedo launched from a fast-attack craft and suffered extensive damage, but limped back to port. She has since been mothballed as her hull continues to bear the stress of that attack. Shujae downed a Mezrehi Estrian-built fighter during an air attack on the carrier strike group operating off the Mezrehi coast, while Gharyi shot down no less than five Mezrehi aircraft during the war. Samid, Shujae, and Gharyi are still in service, though all are pending replacement with new units currently under construction. Siada is expected to be slated for scrapping some time in the next 2-3 years.

Pleased to introduce my most recent SB drawing and the one I am most proud of. This has set the standard for most of my recent work and I hold myself to this level of quality. You'll forgive me if it's predecessors aren't quite as well-conceived.
[ img ]
Though the Siada’s had been a successful experiment in domestic warship production for Tihama, they appeared during a time of rapid technological change for naval forces around the world. The advent of the vertical launch system for deploying missiles quickly swept naval designers worldwide, and before long Tihama’s allies in the UFRR had incorporated the new technology into the design of their upcoming Plahovit-class destroyers. The Tihamans seized the opportunity to build a new class of warships incorporating all the latest technologies. Actually, Tihaman engineers had been working on two separate VLS systems of their own, as well as the missiles to go with them, and found that they could readily be adapted to the UFRR’s hull. General arrangement of the UFRR vessel was followed, but most of the electronics and weapons systems were domestically developed, and the aft VLS system was merged into a full-size hangar for two MB-9 SAR/ASW helicopters. The result was a large, sleek combatant with the following particulars:
Displacement: 7,200 tons nominal, 8,600 tons full load
LOA: 152 meters
Beam: 17 meters
Draught: 6 meters mean, 8 meters w/ sonar dome
Machinery: Two-shaft CODAG, Four Borsat DG182 gas turbines (64,000 shp), Four Borsat 12V-8 12-cylinder diesels (28,800 shp), two shafts
Design speed: 30 knots
Range: 8,000 nautical miles @ 20 knots
Crew: 250
Systems retained from the original UFRR design included the powerful new K-630R 30-mm CIWS (Tihaman designation NBQA-30-6), a 6-barreled piece with onboard radar director guidance, as well as the B-24K long-range air-search radar array amidships. Another feature borrowed from the original design which became standard issue for the TPN was the triple N-3 324-mm torpedo tube system, capable of launching wire-guided and supercavitating torpedoes. Just aft of these were two quadruple launch canisters for the 9NM7 anti-ship/land-attack missile. The new quad canisters enabled twice as many weapons to be carried as on the Siada’s, which were eventually refitted with this system. The main gun was the new BBH-130-1, a locally-developed DP weapon with a RoF of ~40/rpm. 400 rounds were carried including specialized long-range land-attack munitions, and an improved fire control system enabled the system to engage surface and airborne threats more reliably than its twin-barreled predecessor. A newly designed turret also reduced radar cross-section and was regarded as more spacious and comfortable by crew. The class’s primary role however, was air-defense, and as a result they carried no less than 112 missile cells in two different vertical-launch system blocks fore and aft. Just aft the main gun forward the bridge was the 64-cell M-88 system for the newly developed 9NAA13 surface-to-air missile (OFSN reporting name SS-N-A-11 Skewer.) Two-staged, capable of 55 nautical mile range, and with a service ceiling of 22,500 meters at Mach 4.1, it was the most powerful missile of its type anywhere in the world when introduced. Aft, just forward of the hangar and directed by a pair of staggered phased-array directors, were the pair of 24-cell VLS for the improved 9NAA7-H (OFSN reporting name SS-N-A-7M Striker II) short-range missile. The new version offered improved ECM resistance and could engage targets at a closer range than older versions, increasing the ship’s ability to defend against close-in targets. The ships were famous for the amount of domed electronics on board, which earned them the nickname “floating temples” due to the resemblance of their off-white colored fire control/electronics domes to those of religious temples in Tihama. All four ships, Watani, Eanid, Eazim, and Wasie Alhila were in service by 1993, and formed the core of the fleet. Still working up when the Mezrehi invasion occurred, they were rushed into service which led to a number of mishaps and equipment malfunctions. Nevertheless, by the second half of the war against Al-Mezreh, all crews were quite well-acquainted with their ships and the class became the highest-scoring in the Tihaman navy. Between the four ships, they accounted for two Mezrehi destroyers, a corvette, two midget submarines, 14 fast attack boats, and 7 aircraft. They went on to spearhead the Tihaman intervention in the Mirasani Civil War, Watani shot down four Mirasani Republican UAVs and two aircraft, while Eazim and Wasie Alhilia fired cruise missiles against land targets at the start of the intervention. All remain in service, having received an upgraded fully integrated computer combat management system, improved fire control, and upgraded radar arrays in 2018. It is estimated that they will be replaced some time between 2025/2026.

I'm in charge of the Khraelyi faction of the Realstrange AU, as well as the original founder of it. I originally started the AU as an homage to Strangereal, or better known as Ace Combat. However, it's grown to more than I could have originally anticipated. We even won an award, being Best New Project 2024 in Conworlds! Nevertheless, I have some work to show off as well.

[ img ]

Despite Khraelyia's growing dominance in the air, the Khraelyi Air Force called in 1972 to ask for the first designated venture into an aircraft that could provide multiple roles in combat. A "multirole", to coin the term. Calling upon design contractors Yurivka Aircraft, and the Central Dynamics Corporation, both submitted designs in mid 1973 in the YS.73 project.
