Behold! More other-SB, this time with some equipment.

[ img ]
The nominal composition of a reserve infantry squad of the EDF Army. Not very high up on the budgetary food chain, as you can probably see. Four 9-man squads make up one platoon.

[ img ]
The composition of a motorized infantry squad of the EDF Army. A step up from the reserves, but not much. At least these guys get vests. Sometimes the vests even have armor in them! Like with the reserves, four 9-man squads make up a platoon.

[ img ]
The composition of a mechanized infantry squad of the EDF Army. Riding around in M113s instead of High Mobility Vehicles like those motorized infantry chumps, mechanized infantry squads are also split into fire teams for increased tactical flexibility. Each platoon is made up of four rifle squads and a weapons squad, shown below.

[ img ]
The nominal composition of an EDF mechanized infantry weapons squad. Heavy weapon loadout can vary depending on the mission, though usually each two-man team will have a counterpart with the same equipment.

[ img ]
The composition of an EEF Marine Corps rifle squad. The cream of the crop, the troops of the Eusonian Expeditionary Forces are kitted out with the best equipment money can buy. Most of the time. Like the EDF's mechanized forces, each squad has two four-man fire teams, and each platoon is made up of three rifle squads and one weapons squad.

[ img ]
The nominal composition of an EEF Marine Corps weapons squad. Like their army counterparts, the heavy weapons they are equipped with can vary depending on the mission. They are most frequently seen with the pictured guided missile launchers and machine guns, but are also trained to employ MANPADs, LAWs, recoiless rifles, gyrojets, grenade launchers, and even suicide drones.

As my first post into the thread, I would like to introduce the more up to date map of our region which actually includes my small nation followed by the established submarines of the Imperial Navy of Iconian Defence Force. The Empire of Iconia has thousand-years tradition of sea fairing due to its unique location and need for naval travel and trade to ensure the resources and survival of the population and economy.

The Imperial Navy is built very carefully around it's doctrine. Iconian doctrine is focused on its primary mission, which is sea control/denial. The maintenance of Sea Lines of Communication (SLC) are the most vital part of this mission, to ensure that vital supplies can reach Iconia in time of war. The second sea control/denial mission is to prevent the invasion of Iconia, or to make the prospect of invasion so costly that it cannot be carried out. To these ends, the Navy is composed of multi-purpose Hunter/Killer groups, each built around one of our CVs. The airwings are tailored to anti-submarine warfare, with enough fighter and AEWC aircraft to provide some air defense for the HK group and/or a convoy. Destroyers and more austere frigates provide defense to the group after the aircraft. These formations are intended to fulfil the role of defensive sea control, keeping the SLCs open. Submarines are the primary means of destroying hostile surface units, including military and commercial vessels. Their mission is to take offensive action against enemy SAGs, convoys, and amphibious groups. All these missions are further supported by land based aviation assets.

The Imperial Navy submarine force is split between the smaller diesel/AIP submarines for defensive tasks and larger nuclear submarines accompanying patrol fleets and task forces.

Emlinil-class diesel submarine were built between 1987 and 1993 while having five ships in her class, the

and finally the

I hope you like my first post. Stay tuned for my second batch of surface combatants of the Imperial Navy.

Iconian surface fleet is composed mainly of Frigates and Corvettes. Nonetheless each carrier group contains one capable destroyer along with few other frigates of various class in its escort. The newest frigate class introduced to service in 2010 is the Therion-class. It is the first (At least not blueprint only) production ship that was built around its RCS reducing capabilities covering most of its equipment. The main mast contains the engine exhaust, surveillance SMART-S Mk.2 radar, targeting AESA arrays, navigational radar, satellite and surface communication channels and other ESM. Armaments of the ship is primarily situated on the bow dominated by the VLS array used in ASW or AAW roles. Middle section of the ship contains both fixed torpedo launchers and AShM launchers for secondary ASW and ASuW roles and the protection of the ship is managed by the Goalkeeper CIWS and RIM launcher for short-range and VLS point-defence missiles for medium and long ranges.

[ img ]

The Esgardir class is new class replacing the older Piscis-class destroyers primarily focused on AAW role inside the carrier group. It is equipped with very capable SMART-L radar and 96 VLS cells offering defence capabilities for the whole fleet with its long to short-range missiles and ultimately the 2 goalkeeper CIW systems. It's secondary ASW role is performed by the torpedo launchers and two helicopters on board.

[ img ]

The older Piscis-class has served in the navy since the late 70s. Its capabilities are quite restrictive by current standards and as so, these ships serve in the supportive roles of less important fleets. Its ASROC launcher and helicopters served as its primary ASW weapon while the aft missile launcher equipped with SAM missiles was meant mainly for protection (although it can equip Harpoon-like missiles). The ships undergone life extension program near the end of millenium when its radars were upgraded to currently shown configuration allowing the ship to be assigned in limited fleet defence role with the use of Standard Missiles.

[ img ]

The corvettes of the Iconian Navy are used mainly in SLOC protection and patrolling roles. They were introduced in 2003 as small and cheap vessels for simple tasks. The ship carry heavy sonar fit and four fixed torpedo launchers to fulfil its primary ASW role. The helipad is large enough to carry the Anti-submarine version of AW101 helicopter or carry light naval-version of Bo-105 in its hangar. For patrolling duties it has its two 25mm autocannons and main 76mm cannon. Their secondary function is also in protecting the ship by complementing the Millenium cannon CIWS.

PS: Criticism for something unrealistic or wrong welcome so I can fix the ships!

Capital ships of the Imperial Navy are split between main and support fleets. The main hunter-killer fleets are composed around the central Anti-Submarine Warfare Carriers, which I will introduce in my next post.

The support fleets are fleets focusing on amphibious operations with their LSDs and LPDs vessels. There are two such fleets. Both have 1 Aerovectoria-class LPD, 2 Gavros-class LSDs with 2 Mexaflotes and 4 LCUs. Its escort is made with older Piscis-class destroyers (introduced in the last post), 4 Guliel-class corvettes (last post), 2 Lastrien-class nuclear submarines (last post) and optionally with Mine countermeasure vessels of Dolthor-class. The fleets are resupplied by Esca-class fast replenishment ships found in each fleet.

Among other vessels of the navy, coastal mine warfare duties are managed by the Haradrendel-class and its Laqueus Remote Operated Vehicles. Intelligence (SIGINT/ELINT) tasks of are performed by two Paratus-class ships.

The Iconian Coast Guard (ICG) is fulfilling its duties with Mallenor-class Patrol ships, smaller Vitus-class Patrol Boat and its smallest Ballion-class Patrol Crafts. Nonetheless the coast guard operates two modified Guliel-class corvettes for its helicopter capabilities and even two modified multipurpose Therion-class frigates as the coast guard flagships.
