I suppose you have all seen the new single sea dart launcher I asked Hood to work on. well, this was the reason why
in 1975, the Tromp was commissioned. this ship, and the second of her class, the De Ruyter, effectively replaced the Zeven provincien class cruisers as flagships of the fleet and as air defence ships (as the Zeven Provincien was upgraded with an Mk 10 GMLS)
these vessels had followed a long design track, originally starting aside with the british navy, who worked on the T82 class.
an comparision between the type 82 and the fregat 1964 shows that they would have had much in common:
type 82
4500 tons
sea dart twin
4,5in
Ikara, british
Limbo
SPS-01
184 sonar
390 crew
fregat 1964
4500 tons
sea dart single
french 10cm
Ikara, australian
Limbo
SPS-01
mod CWE-610 sonar
345 crew
these specifications are nearly all I started with to make this drawing. thus, a lot is made up, but to my understanding, this is close to how the real vessel would look.
all details and exact positions of equipment is not to be taken as reference though, this is in a way nothing more then an artist impression of an educated guess of the above specs. I hope I will find better data once, and make her the way she really was going to look, but it is unknown to me if any plans for that exist, or are even made for that matter.
for comparision, the specifications:
L*B*T: 140m*14,8m*4,75
Cb: 0,485
displacement:4500 tons
engines: 2 Rolls Royce Tyne, 2 Rolls Royce Olympus
propulsion type: COGOG
cruising speed: 17 knots
top speed: 30
range at cruising speed:4000 nm
crew: 345+ flag staff
weapons are as listed above.
I hope you all like her, and please comment
