This thread will cover planned conversions for the two existing ships and the three uncompleted ships of the Yamato class BBs; all of which did not come to fruition.

First up, Yamato with all type 89 HA guns in shielded mounts as was planned. This was not accomplished as the resources were not available.

Next, Musashi after a four month refit if she had survived Leyte Gulf, here in February 1945. Note that it would not have been necessary to move the shields for the upper 25mm mount due to the production of cheap shields as was done for the Yamato. She would have ended up very similar to the layout Yamato had at that time.

Next, a what if outfit of Yamato were all open mounts are shielded excluding those that would be in the way of main battery or are in positions that would not likely support the extra weight. The purpose of the Shields was to protect gun crews from the blast of the main battery and allow them to stay at their posts when firing.

some of them had been done by ALVAMA, but there are pleny (or better, there is a neverending list of them), at least 21 different variants..

Yeah I found those two on the main section and while they are not bad I think they are not on the same level as your drawings (and Erusia's). Of course I guess those are earlier works.

Off topic: any take on these four funneled BCs BB1987? :D
