WIP!
I need some help with the mast and detailing, as I now as good as nothing of US navy auxilary ships.....

the design and colours are based on an drawing I found on an shipyard PDF, the ship is already in construction but as the drawing wasn't very accurate and the sources are in disagreement, I put this one in neverbuild designs for now.

I hope on some feedback, comments and ideas, but please don't point out the obvious things (such as 'it needs lights and mooring gear) or the fact that she is ugly as hell (I agree on that) but more the general design things, such as what instruments to put in that huge mast, how to detail that ramp or what hull number she would most likely have.

The article is mainly interesting for the background info, as the picture in the article depicts a quite different vessel (converted tanker, looks a lot like the AMERICAN CORMORANT actually). Would not want to be on that low deck in a bad storm, so I guess it's just as well that the USN is building a brand new and quite different vessel!

just to say... that is no heavy tanker, but an modified dockwise Tern class ship..... semisubmersible, just as the ship I'm drawing. that one was one of the concepts, btw, ALVAMA will be doing that one soon.

btw, I really need some help guys! every bit of intel or every suggestion is helpful....

well, IMO, she's finished. if anybody has comments, please go ahead, I won't submit this one for the current upload session because I am not yet entirely pleased with it, and I hope during the coming period new information comes up so I can improve this drawing and submit it to real designs.

Even with the advances in comms technology, I'd still expect to see a veritable forest of antennas on a ship like this.

comms for what? it is more or less an freighter or an floating load/unload station, and I already think the amount of satcoms is.... well..... high. the antenna's and satcoms I have on are the ones shown on my reference, but as my refs weren't that good....

I guess I'll just have to wait till the real ship is finished.

Coordinating said unloading. Getting a normal RO-PAX ferry loaded is a major piece of logistical choreography and they have the advantage of purpose build shore facilities.
The MLP on the other hand will be doing it mid-ocean and instead of family cars and trucks it's got to deal with multi ton AFVs, helicopters, artillery and all their support equipment. Just making sure that a Howitzer's ammunition goes to the same place as the howitzer is going to be a challenge. And the key to that challenge is communication and that means bandwidth and lots of it.
Plus, a SatComm won't do much good if you're trying to talk to the landing craft that's alongside.
