Great job Ace
It is, as far as has been determined, a placeholder for the undefined missile that was going to be used by ASMS. While ASMS became AEGIS and the associated missile became SM-2, no such definition was yet made. It does however appear in the diagram found in Friedman's to be a twin arm launcher, and something of a cross between a Mk 11 and a Mk 26 (which this predates).
What's the forward launcher on the third drawing? |

Nice work, not exactly pretty ships, but well drawn. |

when working on the history for the DX project, I found out I missed an drawing that has no reason to be missed so I drew it. the next bit of the write-up (and maybe some drawings ) will be the bridge from the DX notional designs towards the DX that was actually build. after that, the part of project DX leading to the Spruance will be done, and the next bit is the (road to) spruance modifications, modernisations and conversions. |

Very nice research and job Ace, and if you allow me, after cruising through all those proto-Spruances i'm quite relieved that we've got the ships that were actually built. most of the proposales were truly ugly ships |

that's because it was! 19 november 2011, 3 years and one month roughly your modifications were quite good though, I copy-pasted the hangar and flight deck directly onto this one

That's reassuring to know, I'm sure I did scale everything at the time. |
