I have added the GW25 series of cruisers.

GW25C is based on illustrations in Friedman and D.K.Brown and information from various sources. The GW25, 25A and 25B are my speculative takes on these never-seen versions, which I suspect were very similar if not identical in overall form.

Great set of drawings Hood.
While 25-A-B may be speculative, as long as you have one of the drawings (C), then drawing the rest can be done if you have the specifications.

Nice work Hood!.

What made the Sea Lords chage their minds in just a month about the GW25C?

I was just looking at the drawings again and something struck me as odd, the armour belt extends from the aft magazine to the bridge but does not cover the forward magazine?

I don't think you have aft Mags, just belt over the BR/ER and then an internal protection over Mags up front? This looks like some of the pre war CA/CLs.

But this does make me ask did the sea slug mag have any protection ? it covers a very large length of the ships so vulnerable, but is high up so very hard to protect ?

Yes, the belt just covers the machinery, the actual Sea Slug magazine is above the belt. I assume some splinter protection may have been given. The belt and decks were probably quite thin, none of these cruisers had what we consider 'normal' thicknesses of pre-war gun-armed ships.

BB1987,
In December 1954 the DNO (Director Naval Ordnance) proposed building a class of 8,000ton cruisers armed with twin 5in guns. This design became GW38. The main reason was probably cost in terms of resources to build the ships and manpower to man them. Also, these were rough calculations and 25C needed further refinements in weight calculations etc. Actually, further developments in the series were continually assessed against 25C as a benchmark and some were found wanting.

You know what James, I prefer the double ended Princess Royal conversions we worked out between us, they looked cleaner than these GW series ships.

Your drawings are excellent of course.
