Why do people think none were ever built
Because aircraft are too expensive for small navies to operate, even in penny-packets. Even helicopters are pushing it, let alone fast jets. Small piston / turboprop MPAs are more affordable since they are frequently based on air truck type machines.

Cute! I love it. I'll have to put a couple of these in my AU somewhere. They'd be fine as ASW Helo carriers, if nothing else.

I was just looking for something in this time period the other day.

Bronies are like the Forsworn. Everyone agrees that they are a problem but nobody wants to expend the energy rooting them out.

Yeah, it'll fit for Pallamara and the DC

They appear, at least on paper to be a good stepping stone to larger, more capable carriers, providing valuable experience, at a modest price. In the Pallamaran Rijkszeemacht, they would fit in somewhere between the WWII era CVEs and the modern Cavour Class.

The 'Harrier Carrier' concept was never taken up for several reasons - some of which have been posted above. If I recall It even had a turntable on deck, plus a special grill to enable Harrier exhaust gasses to vent during VTOL. That said, it may have been useful solely as a helicopter carrier in various roles :)

I can't help thinking its going to be a lively ship and probably a bugger to land on in a heavy sea.

I'd love to see some of the later, modular versions as a comparison!
