According to information from network, Chinese Type 053H3 Frigate(Jiangwei II class) Huaihua(FF-566) and Yichang(FF-564) have been finished the rehabilitation and modernization. I can confirm following status of modernization from the analysis of photographs: HHQ-7 SAM is repalced by HQ-10. Type 76A AA guns is repalced by H/PJ-12 gatling guns (Type 730 CIWS), two guns share one fire control system. New upgraded Type 344A fire control radar for Type 79A twin 100mm gun. New EW system similar to those on Type 054A Frigate |

Interesting. That is a long blank after the ASROC and before the deckhouse. Any idea what's hiding under it? Can't be reloads for the ASROC, the magazine spaces aren't right. |

You mean this? That is NOT a RAM clone. It was in-house developed from a Chinese anti-helicopter missile called the TY-90, which itself was a ripoff of the Russians; specifically Strella 2 originally. As for RAM, that western bird traces its pedigree back to SIDEWINDER. The Americans adapted an ASROC type launcher architecture for RAM. I presume the PLAN sensibly did the same. Still doesn't answer the original question either. Why the blank space? What are the PLAN hiding under there? |

From pictures from before this modernisation, it seems like the original missile launcher was somewhat bulkier, and 2 gun turrets were placed forward of the bridge. As this is an modernisation, replacing 3 mountings with one more capable launcher obviously leaves some free deck space, while the internal requirements vary very little so the superstructure stays in place. So the Chinese are hiding nothing on these ships, as far as I can see. nobody said it was an RAM clone, it is however an missile similar in role and design to the RAM. You jump to conclusions way too fast, Tobius...... Also, what the hell does ASROC type launcher architecture mean? the only thing this thing has in common with the Mk 112 ASROC launcher is that it is an box launcher that can rotate in 2 dimensions, reloading, layout, internal workings and role are all different from the ASROC launcher. |

Just sharing same function. That is NOT a RAM clone. Still doesn't answer the original question either. Why the blank space? What are the PLAN hiding under there? Originally, there are two Type 79A AA guns, removed. HQ-10/FL-3000N has no relationship with TY-90, it is a new family. |
