MS Königin Luise was a 2,000-passenger cruise ship built in 1934 for Hamburg America Line

During World War 2 the ship was acquired by the Kriegsmarine to be used as an auxiliary minelayer carrying 240 mines.
In September of 1941 she hit a Soviet mine near Finnish coast and sunk.

Very nice work WhyMe, its really good to see the military conversion alongside the original civil design so you can tell what changes were made.
Were the upper deck gangways used to load the mines?

Very nice work!

On a side note, anyone else read the title of this thread and automatically think of the gunboat in The African Queen? :lol:

@WhyMe,
Very Dubious for the 1940-1941 ship-version to carry aft (near the aft-mast), a single 37mm/69 M1942 or LM42 model (=> in service by mid-1942 -1943 !)

I don't know for sure but I bet that's exactly how it was done.

Good catch; the 37mm gun has been replaced with a correct version.
