The 94 m research vessel, RV Investigator, is available for multidisciplinary research in the oceans and seas around Australia. RV Investigator was commissioned in 2014-15 to replace the 66m Southern Surveyor. Investigator has a greater range and can carry more scientific personnel than Southern Surveyor, enabling research to be carried out to the Antarctic ice-edge. The Marine National Facility is based at CSIRO’s Marine Laboratories in Hobart, Tasmania, which is also home port for the research vessel. |

Nice drawing Lazer_one but to pick up on a few things if I may, the ships name appears too far forward, because the 'V' in Investigator needs to be slightly left of centre of the hatch just below the 'I', you're missing three larger holes in a row in the side of the hull, for the ropes to go through to tie up the ship to the side of the pier, and 7 smaller rectangular holes and some other details in that area appear off, you blue appears to be to pale and your green looks a bit bright as well and arcs a bit to early as well compared to the photo. Would a little shading under the platforms bring out the superstructure a bit? There's other details, but I'll leave that for you to make out in the photos. Your MPSV07 class is a little wrong in details as well but I didn't want to say before, the superstructure is orange in the photo but red in your drawing and you're missing the giant white 'RESCUER' on the hull as well, and the white circles at the water line are too low. Hope these help. All the best Tempest. |

Can you guys describe the features on the keel towards the bow? I'm assuming there's some sort of moon pool. |

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... e_view.jpg This photo seems pretty conclusive. "Sonar 1.2m under keel". A moon pool accommodation on a ship like this interests me, though (as an occasional diver myself)... any info on that? |

I would agree if the aft feature didn't look like it was ten or fifteen feet deep. |

Leaving aside the questions raised above, that's an excellent drawing. |

A moon pool accommodation on a ship like this interests me, though (as an occasional diver myself)... any info on that? Not sure about the Investigator but certainly on the old Southern Surveyor (was aboard her for an Oceanographic voyage in the Indian Ocean back in 2012... two days out of port the engine blew up so we lost about a third of our allotted sea time awaiting replacement parts) the moonpool was not set up for diving but instead just as an area to mount an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler.

... following Tempest's hints I corrected the drawing (with the exception on the colors) |
