For some time (years really), the current Leander has always bothered me. It lacked detail, had too many weird radars as made by unknown and had poor shading and non-standard railings. Upon digging further I found it was too long and the Limbo was in the wrong place, the flightdeck was too long and so on. So I've decided to redraw this fine class of ships, perhaps the finest frigate conceived during the 1950s and 1960s. It's been a tricky draw in many ways but with the help of some decent close-up photos and plans I give you the HMS Hermione, Batch III Broad-Beam Leander in July 1968. Please don't bombard with requests for all one zillion variants of this class. I'll be doing more, mainly the 1980s upgrades at first and then maybe some foreign examples. I will not be re-doing the Van Speijk or the Godavari but if anyone wishes to do these two classes I have no objections and I guess Alex will be keen to redo Speijk. |

Fantastulastic This is the difinitive version. And:

No need to do a RAN 'version' as I've already done the Aussie Type 12's, which is a diferent design, though the final version did bear some resemblance to the Leanders. But if we are reserving variants I hereby 'bags' the RNZN versions

I said it once and i will say it again Post WWII RN and early coldwar ships are some of the finest designs to ever sail. Hopfully you will also redo the County class. |

Too right Cobber, these ships had attitude, and not like the modern stealth clones (like modern cars) - utterly boring! |

Are you also refering to the un built NZ design for a helicopter carrying Leander? this vesion was supposed to carry 4 Wasps along with Limbo, 4.5" gun and 40mm guns (the 40mm to be replaced by Sea Cat), but would not have the Type 965 radar.Hood Congratulations on a very fine drawing, and now for Batch 1 with no Sea Cat and Batch 2 |
