The drawing below, as marked, is of HMS Javelin as completed in 1939. HMS Javelin is what I would call the base unit for all of the other members/versions of the JKN types.

I have been given the 'Design Process' drawings (6 of them) for the J class and that is my next project.

Anyone who wishes to use this base drawing to produce HMS Kelly (the most famous of the class), the Aussie 'N's, or any other of the class, is quite welcome to do so and add them to the thread.

awesome! may I request the dutch operated ships of this class as well? I might do those myself one day if you don't, but my worklist is waaaaaay too long already so you will be earlier by months, if not years, if you want to do it

Splendid drawing, but shouldn't the X mount be trained aft?

These ships were odd in that way, I seem to recall - X mount's 0 degree of train position was pointing forwards.

Looking good.
It would probably nice to hide behind them from the wind with open mounts.

Yes, the photos show the ships at rest with the X turret pointed forwards. I have other photos of the ships at sea with the same mounting pointing aft.

All three twin 4.7in trained forward with total arcs of fire of 340degrees. That meant No3 mount could not fire directly aft, until a Confidential Admiralty Fleet Order (CAFO 1998/40 of 7 Nov 1940) instructed ships to alter the housing from 0deg to 180deg so that No3 then faced directly astern with a usable arc of 320 deg. Some ships continued to train ahead throughout the war. (Mounts usually classed as Nos 1,2 and 3 rather than the A,B,X in larger ships.) [The Kelly's: Christopher Langtree, Chatham, 2002, p36]
The thinking in the late 1930s was that the 4.7 could be used as an AA weapon and needed to be able to train across the bow without going all the way round astern. The directors on the bridge had blind aft arcs. On the other hand threats from MTBs would be met by turning away, needing astern fire. First Sea Lord and Controller decided on blind arc aft, (later rescinded, see above). [British Destroyers: Friedman, p40]
