PM me your email and I'll see what I can send you for images of the models that I saw in San Diego (on the Midway and at the Air and Space Museum there).
This really drives home the ultimately experimental nature of this ship. Very little has been changed from its previous collier nature other than add a flight deck and some structures to house crew.
I believe Friedman's Carriers has the evolution of this ship fairly well documented, unfortunately I don't have it with me over my spring break otherwise I'd take a look for you.

Yeah, I think its after the reconstruction in 1922. I imagine that a ship like this would be constantly changing due to the experimental nature of its duties. Do you know what the wooden beams on the hull are for?
