WIP Newport Class LST
Still a long way to go. The fact that the best drawing available of her (The one by AD Baker) is bent in the middle, so I had to do a fair bit of re-constructive surgery.
I'll post more info when she's further along.

Oh and thanks to Graham for the scan

Some progress have been made. The observant bucketeer will notice the 3"/50 isn't in its usual housing. I've run into this particular version a couple of times, but I've been unable to find a drawing or a good picture of it that shows it from the side. If you happen to have one I'd be delighted if you'd share it. Hi-Res pictures of the ships in their original configuration are always welcome, dated if possible.

I think it is in its usual housing, or near to, but the splinter shield is lower than was typical (or is missing altogether). The version on the parts sheet only shows down to the top of the typical splinter shield, IIRC.

Here comes the Newport. I've always amazed on who designed the bow 'door' if that's how you call it. Looking forward for a completed version!

I don't know who designed it, but the bow ramp was designed to allow the her to do 20kts. This was considered essential in order to avoid soviet SSNs. Previous classes could only do 10-15kts.

I don't think it had anything in particular to do with SSNs (which in any event could easily catch a 20kt convoy). It was simply the defined speed for the post-war amphibious fleet.
