The USS Fargo CL-106 was the first in a sub-class of improved Clevelands, which the Navy redesigned following war experience. The most important change was the reduced superstructure and trunked funnels to improve sky arcs for the AA guns. This drawing was surprisingly difficult due to a lack of any good photos of the actual ship. Shipbucket Standard grey example No new parts this time, sorry. |

Great Stuff And no question, the USN cruisers were the best all-round gun cruisers. And now we have Colosseum producing these great drawings - are there takers for the remaining smaller units: escorts, destroyers? |

Excellent rendition, Colo! Only one thing that strikes me, and I realize it goes for the previous Boston and Oregon City classes as well: you've forgotten to add the very distinctive flukes or 'v'-shaped breaks aft, at the floatplane, curving down toward the shafts and ending at the keel, just forward of the innermost shaft trunk. Maybe it's a nitpick, for sure, but to me these features also tell me that these ships are distinctly American, since no other nation adopted it - ever! The only classes which doesn't seem to have had it were the Wichita and Brooklyns and Clevelands. Friedman has a few excellent views on how to draw it on each class. |

I have never been too keen drawing that sort of stuff onto the hulls. I noticed their inclusion on the Friedman's drawing of Oregon City, so I might add it in a later revision. In my experience adding strakes in the hull line tends to end up cluttering the underwater hull, and when I tried to draw it on Oregon City, it interfered with the "look" of the boot-topping as well. Anyway, if it's true that the Clevelands did not have it, then the Fargo would not have had it either as they were built on Cleveland hulls. |

Yes, Colo, though, I think the Fargos were redesigned to actually include that particular feature. I'll recheck it tonight. As for including or excluding, I just have to respect your choice. I can always draw them on my copy of your work! |

Let me know what you find out. If it's as important a feature as it sounds I'll just retrofit it to the Baltimore/Oregon City and push out an update tonight. Won't be too difficult to add it to Fargo as well. |
