Aw man, it kicks ass! Also sorry for being unable to find you decent drawings, I guess for whatever reason they just didn't feel it important. |

Excellent work Bombhead. She was one of my favourites for a long time, and I think that if it wasn't for "Sailor" the Ark Royal would have gone before her to the breakers. |

There was something bugging me about this ship and the Ark Royal (and I think both drawings are excellent). And that was the gun turrets. The top of the gun house was flush with the flight deck on both ships (when they had guns) and sculpted into the deck yet these drawings show them as seperate turrets. You can see them here (bad photo but all I could find to scan). Also the full version of this picture is here (nice shot of Eagle leaving Wellington, NZ) and a deckplan of Eagle at Suez in '57. (Warning hi rez big pictures). http://i930.photobucket.com/albums/ad14 ... 91/faa.png Eagle deckplan (<4 mb) http://i930.photobucket.com/albums/ad14 ... faa002.png Kiwi Eagle (>4 mb) |

Thanks for the comments mates.I will put the new Buccaneer on the updated drawing along with the turret /sponsons on both Eagle and the Ark.The cost of refitting Eagle with uprated catapaults to accept the F4K was reputed only to be £5 million and was a great shame this was not done.Eagle was a in better condition,Ark Royal suffering from mechanical problems all her life.Eagle carried out the trials with the Phantom in the first place. |

Blimey! Synchronicity or what I was in the local Oxfam today and there it was, the box set video of the above mentioned 'Sailor' t.v. documentary, and for the princely sum of 50p; so I grabbed it. Amazingly, this was filmed in 1976; and I hadn't realised how old Rod Sterwart is I'm getting my teeth into HMAS Sydney 75% complete |
