Post subject:  The French built Flower-class

It's been a while since I last drew or posted, but hopefully that may change in the future.

The Marine Nationale's second order of Flower-class corvettes included six ships ordered in French yards alongside the others in British yards.

These six ships were to differ in their armament from the British Flowers by having a 100mm/45 Model 1932 (as on the La Melpomène-class) and 2x 2 Hotchkiss 13.2mm CAD mounts, but otherwise no other obvious differences as far as I am aware.

This is an interpretation of Arquebuse if completed as planned in 1941, having been launched in the latter half of 1940.

The four ships under construction at St Nazaire(Arquebuse, Hallebarde, Sabre and Poignard) were taken over by the Germans after the fall of France, while the two at Dunkerque were presumably cancelled (Trombon and Javeline). By 1944, three of the ships had been completed for the Kriegsmarine as escorts and minesweepers, however none would be retained after an RAF bombing raid and the invasion of France by the Allies.

Based on the pictures of PA 2 (ex-Hallebarde) and the accompanying article by Stephan Brock - this is an impression of PA 2 as she would have appeared in 1944 with the German modifications. Precious few details of how these ships appeared in German service appear to have survived, though the AA armament was extensively augmented.

Nice work, its not often that the French Flower class ships get mentioned.
I suspect the French-built ships would have differed in details but the overall design would have been pretty similar I think.

Thank you very much, very interesting!
And you do not plan to make drawings of the French Flower-class sloops of WW1 (Aldebaran 1st class avisos).
Best regards!

Thank you, I imagine being a rather small part of the Marine Nationale's history means they would get overlooked. It's a pity that La Bastiase was lost so quickly, otherwise I could have taken some pointers from her to apply to the French built ships.

Based on the edits suggested by Colombamike, I have updated the drawing of PA 2 to be more accurate.
