I'd like to see the Japanese passenger liners Asama Maru and Kamakura Maru on here...I just don't have the patience to draw something that large. Got plenty of photos and drawings, though.

I do have some material on Japanese merchant vessels of the 1930's and would like it if you can provide me with more. As it is I'm looking for material concerning the Brazil Maru or Argentina Maru.

Excellent work on this thread, I'm enjoying seeing all these ships. Merchants add a bit of colour to the otherwise mainly Grey world of SB. Great work guys.

Beautiful work Navarchos. Seems that the have unusual confidence in their ferries - she doesn't appear to have lifesaving boats apart from a small number of inflatable rafts :). I'm guessing that the Nishiki Maru was a RO-RO ferry for trucks carrying only the crew and truck drivers?
Japanese domestic ferries are exempted from certain rules, including the obligation to carry lifeboats. Once these vessels are sold abroad, one of the first changes made is the installation of lifeboats.
If you want to learn more about the strange world of Japanese ferries, have a look at this blog by the maritime author and professor Bruce Peter, who just made a big ferry-spotting trip all over Japan:

Because A man with a Brain in the size of a moon did the calculation. ...or just a computer that did the work.

I think it has more to do with an large beam :P
I could even throw in some stability calculations, but I have done quite a few the last few days already and see no reason to bore you with them xD
