Nice work, Colo! I'm no fan of the gigantic cruiser killer idea, but this thread is slowly turning me around! ;)
Let's be honest, the ship was a battlecruiser in all but name, including high speed, weaponry that would fit a (earlier) battleship, and not being armored to take one's own guns.
Eh, true enough. The 12" rifle thing honestly bothers me regarding the "battlecruiser/large cruiser" debate, but then again Arkansas was still in service.
Those 12" guns were as good, if not better in every way than the 14" guns on the New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Tennessee classes.

I think the only plausible SP approach would be sponsoning wildly off the side of the funnel, the way some of the dino-burning carriers looked with their SPS-37A. Note the massive lattice poking right out the side of the 42.

If you're concerned about the weight of SP, you could put the air search set out on the sponson and give SP the foremast position.

Put me on the list of badly wanting to see this with 3/50...

Get in line. :P :)

If someone would provide me with good, detailed plans of the 3"/50 RF mount I'll move that up in priority. Right now I am going crazy trying to figure out the best way to draw the removable barrel bloomers for the 5" guns... :/

Also - finalizing the actual ships is the top priority.

* the drawings have been updated. Most notable changes will be barrel bloomers on the 5"/38s of the 1944 ships. A few other changes were also incorporated.

Thanks - have just returned from a weekend trip to Colorado with no cell phone or email. I noticed I have received some pretty nice schematics from you - I'll try to act on that when I can. Right now there are still some loose ends to tie up with the Alaskas and then it will be on to the post-war conversions and other dumb crap (or maybe I'll stop at my usual "1945" limit and press on to more deserving ships - like the Sumner/Gearings, North Carolina, or St. Louis?)

Drawings have been updated again... realized I left out the training stop buffers on the 5"/38 mounts, and the port side view side lights were green instead of red. I also added the naval jack since all the ships show the ensign on the stern (indicating they are shown "at anchor"). While underway the ensign would be flown from the mainmast.

Just out of curiosity, are you planning on updating the Alaska class Wikipedia page with the updated drawings?
