HMS M.21 and M.22 were each fitted with a unique (within class) set of triple expansion steam engines, rated at 600 ihp and 650 ihp respectively. Note the painted bow wave and the Red Ensign flying off the main mast.

HMS M.25 surrendered her main gun (9.2" Mk. VI) to the defense of the Western Front, while assigned to the Dover Patrol. She received a temporary outfit of five QF 6pdr Mk.I Hotchkiss guns, untill more suitable armament could be provided.

HMS M.26 was propelled by four Bolinder 2-Cylinder Semi-Diesel Engines providing a total of 560 bhp. As in M.25 her main gun was diverted to the Western Front. In its place she mounted a BL 7.5" Mk.III gun previously reserved for the battleship HMS Triumph. I know she had four propeller shafts, but I could not find any visual reference to draw on. So only the above waterline is shown.

HMS M.27 shared engine design with M.26. Her main gun was also transfered to the Western Front. She received a BL 6" Mk.II from HMS Redoubtable, which was later replaced by a Mk.VII. This shows the later mount.

In 1919. Her 6” gun was exchanged with a BL 4" Mk.IX Triple mount - the same type used in the Battlecruiser HMS Renown - before she sailed for Murmansk, in support of White Russian forces.

HMS M.29 was the lead ship of the M29 class. Their primary armament was provided by guns removed from Queen Elizabeth-class Battleships. Each ships mounted two BL 6” Mk.XII guns, and a QF 6pdr Mk.I Hotchkiss. Power was provided by a triple expansion steam plant, rated at 400 ihp.

Thank you for bringing these smaller ships to our attention. When speaking of great powers like UK, one usually forgets everything but their battleships. It's nice to see these smaller ships as well.
