Just a pity the RN got rid of them in first place.

Ok, changed that embarrassing flag mix-up. My apologies to possible Rumanian SB-members! For Colombamike: Yes, just look at the neighbor, Bulgaria. They were smart enough to purchase a pair of Belgian E-71s when they were put up for sale. Less than half the tonnage, but somuch more potency!
I heard from a Bulgarian member, those things are so old and crapy, they are planning to scrap them!

What I've learned is that upon transfer they actually were in an excellent condition. But Bulgaria isn't the richest country in the EU...

Wouldn't surprise me. The Belgians usually use their equipment until it's barely servicable, becuase buying anything large is almost impossible with their finances. Add a sale to a poor country to that, and very soon those ships are little more than scrap.

Anyway, I give you the fleet flagship of the Rumanian Navy, the Regele Ferdinand (F221) as she appears today. Her only present armament is a 76 mm Oto-Melara situated in a similar fashion as that shipped by the Chilean Almirante Williams. Also the triple TTs remain along with American supplied SRBOCs chaff/flare. The helicopter is the Super Puma.

Sorry, but that 76 mm is further forward than on the Almirante Williams. There is also no connection between it and the forward superstructure:

Do a google search and you'll find enough pics of her.

Thanks a whole bunch, Miho! never saw those Romanian pics! Have tons of others but these are really informative! No sweat, though. It a relatively easy fix, and I'm glad you spotted it!

Lovely...especially as that as Coventry was always one of my favorite ships.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but does anyone else think that this design with a modified structure above decks aft the funnel would be brilliant for anti-piracy

Many Thanks

Nick

I don't think it will be fit for anything else but that, by looking at its armament. A Combatante I FAC can inflict more damage than this entire ship. Does anyone have any idea why the Romanians bought this ship in the first place? And why it is equipped so poorly? I believe not even torpedo tubes are fitted.
