As promised, a new thing.
In 1924 it was decided in the Soviet Union to built up the merchant fleet. A small freighter design of 3,500 GRT was prepared, to be built in various yards across the country. The first in this series was given the appropriate name of Tovaritch Stalin (means comrade Stalin, than the head of state and ruler), ships being built from 1925 and completed in 1927 on-wards. These small freighters, so called timber carriers, were to help in the economic situation of the Soviet state, by promoting imports and exports, and as a sideline were also used to export the Communist revolution worldwide. The Tovaritch Krasin was the fourth to be built out of around 48 similar ships
