I've never heard of Schlachtschiff F before! Nevertheless, beautiful drawings as usual maomatic I must ask though, were there any other preliminary Schlachtshiff designs?

Sorry, I didn`t make myself clear in the description, but Schlachtschiff "F" / Ersatz Hannover is basically just the contract name for the ship that eventually became "Bismarck". My drawing shows the first design that was developed in 1936/37.

There were further "evolutions" of the "Bismarck-class" design. I might draw them someday.

Thats a cover for another 1540mm searchlight. "Tirpitz" (and some of the Hippers) had similar, yet different looking covers.
On my drawings of "Bismarck" I have decided to show it in a "closed" position, while on the "Tirpitz" I have shown them opened.

Maomatic, if I may suggest a simple but, I believe pedagogically very smart way of furthering your ever so terrific drawings of the KM Bismarck: Instead of just having the event descriptions, why not also add the actual (or probable) dates to your drawings; i. e. date them, so that the different, distinct phases of Bismarck's oh so short operational life will be clearly delineated? Thus adding, say for the Operation Rheinubung, instead of just "May 1941", maybe May 24-27, 1941 (for the last drawing.)?

I think doing that will elevate these absolutely unbeatable drawings, wherein you've poured your soul, into the definite illustrations of this tragic ship!

I disagree, unless it shows the ship as it was on exactly that day, such as for example during a fleet review or the commissioning of the ship. even while the bismarcks carreer is short, it changed not day by day, and doing so would IMO represent it as doing so. also, reference pictures are never of a single day, so that would provide inaccuracy rather then elevating accuracy.

Well, ace, that's not the case in Bismarck's particular case, with all due respect... All what you say does not at all apply to Bismarck - hence why that exact dating actually can be applied to this ship; especially since maomatic has presented several versions depicting Bismarck on certain moments/events in her brief career. The painting-over of her camo, for instance can be dated, just read von Müllenheim-Rechberg!
Bismarck is a unique case with her extremely brief yet eventful career. I'm not advocating this for all ships or -classes, unless depicted on a particular occasion. Thus maomatic's KM Gneisenau has several versions too, that our esteemed artist has chosen to show, some that are very clearly chronologically limited.
So, yes, exact dating often can lend increased authenticity to a drawing!

(To take one of my own examples: I have drawn the HMS Black Prince as of 1912-14; that's a bigger time scope; however, I have also shown her as of Jutland, May 31-June 1, 1916 (and will, hopefully have a redraw completed soon!). So there are moments of a ship's career you might want to commemorate, even if it's just one day, a week, or a month!

But, I'm not to decide for maomatic. Let him in due course weigh the pros and cons and make that decision. I've given my five cents worth of opinion!

While working on the "Rheinübung" drawings a similar thought came to my mind, as I was under the impression that there needed to be some way to distinguish both drawings. Labeling both with "May 1941" seemed a little "vague" to me, yet I decided to do so, because I thought I'd comply to the SB-Standards this way.

The events during Operation "Rheinübung" were changing very fast and "Bismarck's" appearance indeed changed fluidly in a matter of a few days (and even hours).
I suppose it might indeed be of a "pedagogic" value to narrow down the timeframe of both drawings, if it is permissible according to the rules.


- Speaking of pedagogics, I`m thinking about adding a short illustrated list of changes "Bismarck" received during her career. Might be a nice touch to "top off" this thread.

I have also made some progress on a bow view of "Bismarck". It´s still a "work in progress", but I ran into a small problem and maybe somebody can give me some advice:
Which template should I use? The one I have chosen seems a little too long (IMO even when planing to add a stern view next to it)...
