That's a fantastic help both to this and my 'super T23s'.

Haha  almost unbelievably useful, some would say ...

I rescaled your reference drawing to the right length and put mine on top ... by stretching just the hull 4 pixels, it matches up almost exactly. Looks like the main area they disagree is the height of the bow at the front.

I think I'll blame my reference which is clearly not as good as yours, although I thought it was okay ... :geek:

The mast, funnel, pilothouse and underwater hull seem a bit off too :P but yeah, it is mostly the bow that needs any real modifications. Check the hull depth amidships though, it seems your drawing is a bit low over there.

The trick is often to get as close to the builders plans as possible with your source. an really nice vector art of a ship can be a great work of art, but nobody checks it for accuracy and nobody checks it's sources. model plans are sometimes created by the navy's from the builders plans, which is as close as we often can get to the real builders plans.

Gollevainen, I do not know where you found a gem like this, do you happen to have more? :P

Haha yes, well ... I did say almost exactly :P Aside from being nearly all wrong, it's not entirely out of the ballpark is what I meant :) I'll have another crack with the new plans and see what I can come up with.

I certainly look forward to seeing the results!

russian internet
but that is actually one of the best model linedrawings I've seen. Aside few german vessels and US coast guard cutters, there is nothing of that quality in my archives.

I will say that drawing the Type 23 is hard, there have not been that many accurate drawings published of this class. The one in Friedman for example is of one of the studies, close to but not quite the final design. Those plans Golly has found are the best I've ever seen and look like a goldmine of information.

I think waterwings has done a good job but the overlay shows some room for improvements. I thought the main problem might be the hull was too shallow but it looks roughly ok, except the bows need raising.
It would be good to see an original Type 23 drawn from these plans too, as probably some improvement could be given to Bezo's version. And we have some newer and more accurate parts now too.

It's such a fantastic reference, I hope I can do justice to it. As a first start, I've done HMS Norfolk as pictured, as she was in 1999. If the basics are okay I'll modify the design for Westminster accordingly. Here's a first draft:

I think shape-wise it's an improvement on my slated version  Looks slightly more 'right'. Let me know what y'all think!
