Thanks again; but re the Limbo, my apologies, I had meant to type Squid but my brain commanded Limbo; and yes, if I do the Scorpion (I'm not keen on the name) I'll factor in the Limbo for interest. And good point on the archaic appearance of much of the R.N. fleet postwar; the most extreme examples being the Type 81 Tribals, which employed refurbished WWII single mount 4.5-in with open shields - into the 1970's !! Tribals apart, the state of the fleet, compared to the USN was poor immediately after the war. Particularly with cruisers and destroyers following existing designs that had been kept going to save time and money, so the service really had no modern cruisers and not many destroyers to compare with the similar classes in the USN. The Weapons were planned as a larger class, and preceded the Battles and Darings, but most were cancelled or scrapped unfinished, so only four commisioned, and they became aircraft direction ships around 1958, still with obsolete guns. And of course, the main impedement to a fully modern fleet was lack of funding.

And thanks for the photo's graham, but could you get them to steam the other way as well :D

I've refreshed the Crossbow to show some changes; and next is the Broadsword, as commissioned, but with the Squid forward in 'B' position; which made its use easier but detracted from the overall appearance (IMHO)

The aircraft direction version; not in service until 1959, and testament to the ongoing problems with the FADE project. The Scorpion was unique in being the only ship of this class to carry Limbo; and as such was a trial for a proposed modernisation of the whole class, which was not further developed. Instead, all four were released for converion into the aircraft direction role. An ommission was the Type 277/278 height finding radar, which would limit its role.

I will attempt (under Never Built) the proposed modernised version - as HMS Battleaxe; and I'd like to develop this into an AU version :)

Beautifull Bill. This long awaited ship is finally in Shipbucket as it should (and I mean the whole series)
The AD conversion lacked Type 277/278 because of lack of space and stability problems.

Cheers Novice :) I'll probably go back to the earlier postings and alter them (slightly) in the light of this one. I will attempt the proposed 'modernisation' as well (as a basis for an AU version)
