It's nice to see this one finally getting off the stocks Bill. I don't envy your long and dedicated task but so far it seems to be coming along nicely.

Bill, something I noticed when I was working on yours was I think the flight deck aft of the Island is a pixel or two off... unless you have already fixed it.
Thanks. do you mean it may be a pixel or two too high or low?

Good beginning !
But do you need some references ?
Thanks. I had the Russian drawings already, but the others are new and invaluable :)

Thanks All for the encouragement. I may change the date to a few years earlier; and I'd like to have a crack at how she looked when first commisioned.

I see the problem with the flight deck.Aft of the island is 4 pixels lower than forward of it.

I'm opening this topic to ensure I finish this project. So, the story so far: I'm reworking my original AU Essex I did for the Coffee War, as the quickest way to get the original (and lets face it the very best of the Essex class) onto the archive. Before any comments - yes, its is very much WIP, so please bear with me as this is a slow burn project that I will need to rework considerably to get a decent likeness. I can continue unassisted on the ship itself, but I will ask for help in two areas: the Air Wing circa 1974, plus a decent ships crest, and for the latter I'm either going to attempt it myself or (hopefull) Kim will feel inspired to produce one of his surelative renditions.
Bill, I feel inspired, but the badge on your drawing looks ok. But it is maybe only a temporary badge?

The crest definitely needs more attention.
Whoever decides to redraw it I hope this will help.

I see your point WhyMe ;) If you still wish it Bill, then I will draw you a fine crest for your excellent vessel :D

Thanks gentlemen; and yes, the the ships crest was one I sourced off the Internet, and though not bad is but a pale refection on what Kim can create. If you would do one it will inspire me to persevere. As much as I love this ship it has been probably the longest running project in SB.

I hear you, PB! My dream is to draw the USS America (CV 66), of which I have a really nice model, which, however, I had to leave behind when moving from Sweden to the US. I miss her very much...
