This was the photo I based the deck of Hermes on.I see what you mean now about the JDB.I think that was a case off the eye seeing what it expected to see and not what was actually there. You wouldn't happen to have a similar shot of Eagle ?

Bombhead! I have followed this thread for a while and been very impressed; I think it's time I said how much I like these drawing, especially the '77 Ark Royal. Have you by any chance read Rowland Whites other book, Phoenix Squadron? It must have taken you aaages to get this looking as good as it does mate, good stuff.

I have only one minor query I just spotted while looking at the corrected F-4 top-view. While acelanceloet has indeed corrected the view of the jet nozzles, it looks like an American version. As I am sure you guys know, the F-4'K' that the FAA used had RR Spey engines, which were more powerful and substantially larger than the original J79s of the original Phantom II. They had wider intakes and larger nozzles, and the fuselage required significant widening to accommodate them. I think this could be better shown in the top-view picture.

These aren't the best (or most accurate) references, but they show the wider engine.

I have attempted to do this myself, but only to show what the engines should probably look like, it's not necessarily accurate. (3rd drawing down is mine)

Also, looking at it next to the line drawing, the wings look too short or wide or something...

Thanks Jabba, and for the excellent Phantoms.I have indeed got and read Pheonix squadron. You can't beat a bit of good old fashioned gunboat diplomacy even if the threat is good enough to carry the day. ;)
